The tiny Central Asian republic of Tuva is a giant when it comes to mastery of the human voice. Tuvan throat singers can produce two or three, sometimes even four pitches simultaneously. The award-winning Alash Ensemble brings this remarkable musical traditional back to Brattleboro.
Alash are keepers of an ancient musical tradition developed among the nomadic herdsmen of Central Asia, people who lived in yurts, rode horses, and had a close spiritual relationship with nature. Since 2006 they have been sharing their rich, unique musical heritage with audiences around the globe.
“If you want to experience music that can transport you to another dimension, lift you to new levels of consciousness, or otherwise blow your mind, then Alash is the ticket.” — VOICES, Lancaster, PA
“This is some of the most beautiful and haunting music I have heard. If you have not heard them, you have no idea how incredible they are.” — Jeff Coffin of the Flecktones and Dave Matthews Band
